Are you a development engineer passionate about innovation and eager to work across the entire product development process, from concept to finished product? Swedish Match is now expanding its product development team with a Research Engineer, offering the opportunity to drive new ideas and technologies in a dynamic and global environment. About the role As one of several specialists in a dedicated team, you will plan and independently execute product-focused innovation projects throughout the entire development chain within oral tobacco and nicotine products, with brands such as ZYN and Göteborgs Rapé. You will work operationally and systematically by mapping product properties at a fundamental level and then, through fact-based idea generation and experimental planning, drive the exploration of new product opportunities and follow them through to launch. We are seeking a dynamic team member to join our team driving short-term or long-term product development initiatives. Within the short-term horizon, you will contribute to advancing new substrate and process technologies with a two-year focus, implementing and scaling up innovative solutions for our product portfolio. For the long term, there will be an opportunity to shape our future by leading research and development projects with a 3–5 year horizon, focusing on substrate research, formulation, characterization, and processing. The role is part of Product Development, within Product & Technology Development. About you You hold a master’s degree or PhD in chemical engineering, materials chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceutical technology, or a related field, and bring several years of professional experience from industrial development within sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, or medical technology. Experience in product and process development, as well as physical analytical methods, is a strong advantage. You are naturally curious and inventive, with the ability to take initiative and systematically explore new ideas. Your excellent communication skills ensure that results and insights are clearly conveyed to all stakeholders, fostering collaboration and efficiency across projects. You thrive in a global organization, taking ownership and making a tangible impact, while balancing innovation with commercial awareness and consumer insights in a fact-based manner. This role involves extensive cross-functional collaboration, so if you enjoy building relationships and working closely with other teams, you will excel. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required, while Swedish is advantageous but not mandatory.
